Sophos Endpoint Security and Control: how to remove from Windows and Mac OS X
This article describes how to remove the current versions of Sophos Endpoint Security and Control from your network of Windows and Mac OS X computers, as well as from your Windows servers.
What to do
Client computers: order of removal
The Sophos Endpoint Security and Control components must be removed from each client computer in the following order; otherwise, you could lock your computers out of the network:
- Sophos AutoUpdate
- Sophos Network Access Control
- Sophos Client Firewall
- Sophos Patch Agent
- Sophos Anti-Virus
- Sophos Remote Management System (RMS)
Management Server: components to be removed
The Endpoint Security and Control components may be removed from the server in any order.
- Sophos EM Library
- Sophos EM Library Console
- Sophos Enterprise Console
- Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SOPHOS) (if you are re-installing Sophos Endpoint Security and Control, you may wish to keep the database on your server).
How to remove
See below for instructions on how to uninstall Sophos Endpoint Security and Control components from:
- Windows NT, 95/98/ME, and Windows 2000/XP/2003.
- Windows Vista+
- Mac OS X
- Windows Servers
Windows NT, 95/98/Me and Windows 2000/XP/2003
For some versions of Windows, you click an 'Add/Remove' button and, for others, it is a 'Remove' button.
Note: Some of the components listed below may not be present.
At each computer:
- Open 'Control Panel'.
- Select 'Add/Remove Programs'.
- Select 'Sophos AutoUpdate', click 'Add/Remove', and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Select 'Sophos Network Access Control', click 'Add/Remove', and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Select 'Sophos Client Firewall', click 'Add/Remove', and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Select 'Sophos Patch Agent', click 'Add/Remove', and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Select 'Sophos Anti-Virus version', click 'Add/Remove', and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Select 'Sophos Remote Management System', click 'Add/Remove', and follow the instructions on the screen.
You may be prompted to restart the computer.
Windows Vista
At each computer:
- Open 'Control Panel'.
- Select 'Programs and Features'.
- Select 'Sophos AutoUpdate', click 'Uninstall', and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Select 'Sophos Network Access Control', click 'Uninstall', and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Select 'Sophos Client Firewall', click 'Uninstall', and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Select 'Sophos Patch Agent', click 'Uninstall', and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Select 'Sophos Anti-Virus version', click 'Uninstall', and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Select 'Sophos Remote Management System', click 'Uninstall', and follow the instructions on the screen.
You may be prompted to restart the computer.
Mac OS X
You will need to enter an administrator username and password to run the uninstaller.
At each computer:
- For Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X version 7.x , go to Macintosh HD|Library|Sophos Anti-Virus.
- Select 'Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg'.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
NOTE, if you are running Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X version 4.x, the path in step 1 is Macintosh HD|Library|Application Support|Sophos Anti-Virus.
Windows Servers
At the Windows server where you have installed the Endpoint Security and Control software, open the 'Add or Remove programs' window as follows:
- On a Windows 2000 server, click Start|Settings|Control Panel|Add/Remove programs.
- On a Windows 2003 server, click Start|Control Panel|Add or Remove programs.
- To remove the components, select each in turn and click 'Remove'. Follow the instructions given on the screen.
