Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 95/98/Me: Installation of current version fails if Sophos Anti-Virus is already present

If a version of Sophos Anti-Virus that is obsolete is already installed on a Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me computer, you must remove it before installing Sophos Anti-Virus version 4.5 or above. This article describes how to uninstall Sophos Anti-Virus from a single Windows 95/98/Me computer.

Alternatively, you can remove obsolete versions of Sophos Anti-Virus over a network with the aid of a login script.

What to do

• At the Windows taskbar, select Start|Settings|Control Panel
• double-click 'Add/Remove Programs'
• select 'Sophos Anti-Virus', and click 'Add/Remove'
• follow the instructions on the screen.

If Sophos Anti-Virus is not present in 'Add/Remove Programs', do as follows

• At the Windows taskbar, select Start|Run
• browse to C:\Program Files\Sophos SWEEP
• double-click 'setup.exe'
• at the very end of the path in the Run window, type a space followed by -remove
  (e.g. "C:\Program Files\Sophos SWEEP\setup.exe" -remove)
• follow the instructions on the screen.
