Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+: How to check the configuration of the iconn.cfg file

Issue
How to check the configuration of the iconn.cfg file.

Sophos product and version
Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+, 7.3.2

What to do

  1. On the client computer, according to which operating system you are running, navigate to one of the following:
    • for Windows 2000/2003
      C:\Program Files\Sophos\AutoUpdate\Config\ folder
    • for Vista/Windows 2008
      C:\Programdata\Sophos\AutoUpdate\Config\ folder
  2. Using 'Notepad', open the iconn.cfg file
  3. Find the line AllowLocalConfig = 0
  4. Change the 0 to 1
  5. Save the iconn.cfg file
  6. Close 'Notepad'
  7. In the 'System Tray' right-click the Sophos shield.
  8. Select the 'Configure updating...' option. The 'Properties for Sophos AutoUpdate' dialog opens.
  9. In the 'Primary server' tab enter the credentials of an administrative user. Click 'OK'.
  10. In the 'System Tray' double-click the Sophos shield. This should trigger an update.

Note : If the update is triggered, this tells you that the problem probably lies with the permissions/credentials of the Sophos_AU_Client user on the server.
