How to install an additional copy of Sophos Update Manager using a batch script

You can install an additional copy of Sophos Update Manager (SUM) using the command line.

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)
Enterprise Console 4.0.0
Enterprise Console 4.5.0
Enterprise Console 4.5.1
Sophos Update Manager

What to do

Open a command prompt (Start | Run | Type: cmd.exe). The command then takes the form:

Msiexec /l*v C:\logname.log /qb- /i “Location of msi”

The available options are:

Command line switch Description
CREATE_NEW_USER=[0|1] To create a new user, set to 1; to use an existing user, set to 0

IS_NET_API_LOGON_USERNAME_TOKEN

 Username (without domain)
IS_NET_API_LOGON_DOMAIN_TOKEN Domain

IS_NET_API_LOGON_PASSWORD

 User's password
PASSWORD_VALID_BASE64=1

Optional. Use this switch if:

  • the password was BASE64 encoded and prefixed with "enc:"
  • if you have a password that includes quotes or semi-colons
RMSCFGSRC

Optional.

Location for cac.pem/mrinit.conf
If not set, the installer assumes the location is SUM.MSI

INSTALLDIR

Optional.

Install Location
If not set, the installer assumes “C:\Program Files\Sophos\Update Manager”

ARPSYSTEMCOMPONENT=1

Optional

Determines whether the Update Manager installation is shown in Add/Remove Programs.
If not set, the program will be listed in Add/Remove Programs.
